Misconception 1: All soaps are harsh and can worsen eczema.

Not all soaps are created equal. While some commercial soaps may have high cleansing power that can aggravate eczema, our natural bar soaps are specifically formulated for individuals with sensitive skin. The chosen formulation of our soaps maximizes conditioning properties for skin. They also provide a soothing and gentle cleansing experience without causing irritation.

Misconception 2: Soaps have little lather.

Certain soaps in our collection, particularly those in the Shea butter range, naturally have lower lather due to the richness of Shea butter, which can reduce lather formation. However, by employing simple tools like a soap net, you can easily generate a creamy lather for a delightful bathing experience. You can find a demonstration of this process in our instructional video on YouTube.

Misconception 3: Lather is drying for eczema skin.

Lather is created when soap interacts with water and air. Contrary to the misconception that lather is inherently drying, the presence of lather itself does not directly correlate with dryness. Instead, it's the formulation of the soap and the specific ingredients used that play a crucial role in determining how the lather affects the skin.

Our natural bar soaps are formulated with a mild and moisturizing lather. The lather produced by our soaps is designed to cleanse gently without stripping the skin of its natural oils. We avoid harsh sulfates and prioritize nourishing ingredients that contribute to a hydrating lather.

In fact, the lather in our soaps can be beneficial for eczema-prone skin. It helps in effectively removing impurities and providing a thorough yet gentle cleansing experience. The key is to use a soap specifically crafted for sensitive skin, like ours, to ensure that the lather contributes to a soothing and moisturizing effect.

If you have concerns or specific preferences regarding lather, we recommend performing a patch test to see how our soap interacts with your skin. Many individuals with eczema have found our gentle lathering formula to be a positive addition to their skincare routine, providing a joyous and effective cleansing experience without causing dryness.

Misconception 4: Soap is unhygienic and crawling with germs.

It's a common misconception that soap itself harbors germs, but in reality, soap plays a crucial role in maintaining hygiene. The process of washing with soap is inherently designed to remove and eliminate bacteria and viruses from our skin.

When you use soap and water, the soap molecules work to surround and lift away dirt, oils, and microorganisms from the skin. These contaminants become suspended in the lather and gets (literally) washed down the drain. The soap itself does not promote the growth of germs. In fact, soap bars are inhospitable environments for most bacteria and viruses due to the alkaline nature and the cleansing action.

Regularly rinsing and allowing the soap to dry between uses further minimizes the risk of germs surviving on the soap surface. Overall, using soap as part of proper hand hygiene remains a fundamental and effective practice for preventing the spread of infections and maintaining cleanliness.

FAQ 1. I have sensitive/eczema-prone skin. Which soap is suitable for me?

If you have sensitive or eczema-prone skin, the most suitable soap depends on a few factors. Firstly, consider the severity of your skin condition. To assess this, observe how frequently you experience flare-ups in a month. If flare-ups are persistent, occurring at least twice a month, I recommend starting with our unscented eczema soap. This formulation simplifies ingredients, avoiding potential sensitizers.

On the other hand, if flare-ups are occasional or once a month, the sensitive skin soap with natural essential oils may be perfect for you. Secondly, my recommendation is pragmatic and takes into account your current skincare routine. If you're already using an unscented product, I suggest switching to our natural unscented eczema soap. However, if your current product has synthetic fragrance, even if you experience frequent flare-ups, I prioritize your user experience and suggest trying our sensitive skin soap with natural essential oils. This switch can already provide significant benefits for sensitive or eczema-prone skin.

FAQ 2. Can I use your soap on my face if I have eczema-prone facial skin?

Yes, our soap is designed to be gentle and suitable for use on the face, including for individuals with eczema-prone facial skin. The natural and moisturizing ingredients in our formulation aim to cleanse without causing irritation. However, in case any soap enters the eye, it might sting a little. You will just need to rinse off with cool tap water.

FAQ 3. Are your soaps safe for children or infants with eczema?

Yes, our soaps are safe for children or infants with eczema. We understand the delicate nature of children's skin and have formulated our soaps to be gentle and nourishing. In fact, because our soaps are made with natural ingredients, they are a perfect first choice for children and infants! Soaps have a much longer history than liquid cleansers. Before the coming of liquid cleansers, everyone used bar soaps, and soaps' formulation just got better in recent years.

FAQ 4. How often should I use the soap?

The frequency of use depends on your skin's specific needs and sensitivities. Generally, using our bar soap once a day during your bathing routine is sufficient. As a general rule, avoid long and hot showers as they tend to dry skin out.

FAQ 5. Are your soaps fragrance-free?

Yes, our soaps are fragrance-free. When we refer to "fragrance", we define them as synthetic and artificial. We understand that fragrances can be irritating for individuals with eczema. To provide a safe and enjoyable experience, we have intentionally omitted fragrances from our formula. Instead, the natural scent, if any, is derived from the carefully selected ingredients used in our soap or the sensitive-skin-friendly (plant) essential oils that we use. This ensures a pleasant and gentle cleansing experience without compromising the needs of sensitive and eczema-prone skin.

FAQ 6. What is the difference between the Avocado vs Shea range of soap?

Both options are well-suited for dry, sensitive, and eczema-prone skin. The distinction lies in the ingredients comprising each soap. The Avocado range incorporates olive oil, avocado oil, and other oils, while the Shea range features shea butter and coconut oil as its primary components. As a result, the two soaps vary in terms of hardness and lather characteristics. The Avocado soap is softer with a light, bubbly lather, while the Shea soap is firmer, producing a denser and creamier lather. The lather from the Avocado soap is easily generated, making it ideal for those who prefer quicker baths. On the other hand, a bit more time is needed to create lather with the Shea soap, but once generated, it is richer and creamier.
